Datuk Azzat Bin Kamaludin


YBhg Datuk Azzat Bin Kamaludin holds degrees in Law & International Law from the University of Cambridge (1969) and BA(Hons) from Queen’s College (1968) and he was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law of the Middle Temple, London in 1970. In 1979 he was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and in same year he became a partner of the law firm Azzat & Izzat (formerly Messrs Chua Brothers, Azzat & Izzat, Advocates & Solicitors). Prior to 1979, he served with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia, in various capacities including Asst Secretary to ASEAN. Besides his full-time legal practice, YBhg Datuk Azzat Bin Kamaludin currently serves on the Boards of several companies. The listed companies where he serves as an Independent Director include, Boustead Holdings Berhad, KPJ Healthcare Berhad and Axiata Group Berhad. He agreed to chair the Board of Zaum Snd Bhd, the owners of elc International School in 1987 and has continued in this position to date.

Mrs. Margaret Kaloo

Founder and CEO

Mrs. Margaret Kaloo, MA (University of Aberdeen), Dip TEFL (University of London), MEd (University of Wales) is the founder and currently Chief Executive of the elc group of schools. Her long career in education started with 3 years teaching in the Sultan Ismail College in Kota Bahru, Kelatan, shorter periods in private schools in Hong Kong and Barcelona and 12 years as a lecturer in Universiti Kebangsaan before establishing the first elc school in 1987. She was nominated Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in 2002 and was the Chairman of the Association of International Schools in Malaysia (AIMS) from 2000 to 2007.

Dr. Umasuthan Kaloo


Dr. Umasuthan Kaloo is one of the founders of elc International School. Dr. Kaloo, who holds degrees in Engineering and Management from the University of Malaya, University of California (Berkeley), University of Cranfield (Cranfield,UK) and the University of Wales (Cardiff, UK)) has been a management consultant for 36 years. Prior to that he was a lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya for 9 years, and an Engineer with the Drainage & Irrigation Department of Malaysia for 5 years.  During his years as a management consultant he taught part-time on the MBA programmes of the Cranfield School of Management (UK) and Southern Cross University (AUS) for a total of 16 years. In recent years he has published 2 books on the management of small enterprises and a biography of one of Malaysia’s best known scientists.

Dato Dr. Zaki Ghazalli


YBhg Dato Dr. Zaki Ghazalli, has been a member of the Board from the time of its inception in 1987. Following his early education in the Malay College, Kuala Kangsar, he went on to earn several academic qualifications, including a BSc (Agri) from McGill University, Canada, MSc from the Agricultural University, Netherlands and a PhD in Agronomy from the Ohio State University, USA. Upon his return from Ohio, he served with MARDI, the Malaysian agricultural research agency up to the point of his early retirement. During this period, he also served as the Malaysian representative to the FAO, United Nations, in Rome, Italy. Following his early retirement, YBhg Dato Dr. Zaki worked with Select Consulting for a couple of years before joining Invetech Consulting (M) as a director of the company. Both of these companies provide management consulting and executive search services. A few years later he left consulting and served as an executive director in Immer Energy, an international energy services company.

Ms. Asha Kaloo

Director of Operations and Finance

Ms. Asha Kaloo received a SCOTVEC HNC in Hotel Management and progressed to a BSc in Consumer Product Management from The Robert Gordon University. She then spent 2 years as a Trainee Manager with Holiday Inn Swiss Cottage, London followed by another year as Research Analyst with an international management consultancy based in Kuala Lumpur before joining elc in 1994. During her time with elc Asha has fulfilled many roles ranging from teaching, admissions, administration, finance and operations, often combining multiple roles at the same time. She has also headed the Primary Division at the SB Campus from 2000 to 2003, was the Head of School at the Kulim, Kedah Campus in 2009 before being transferred to the new elc Campus at Cyberjaya as Head of School from 2010 to 2012. With 23 years of experience in the field of education, Asha is currently the Director of Operations and Finance covering both campuses.

Mr. Rajan Kaloo

Director of Services

Mr. Rajan Kaloo received a MA in Management Studies from Aberdeen University. In 2014 he completed his Master’s in Business Administration, specialising in Education, with Keele University. Initially Rajan worked in hospitality, before spending 4 years in Operations and Logistics with Great North Eastern Rail based in Edinburgh, UK. In 2005, Rajan returned to Malaysian to work with as Management Consultant before joining elc as a Business Development Manager in 2007. Currently Rajan is the Director of Services, with responsibilities including the Group’s human resource management (HRM), marketing, public relations, and legalities. This role includes acting as a liaison with the School’s parent body and representing the School at meetings organised by the School’s Parents’ Association. Rajan also represents the School at business meetings of the FOBISIA Heads and Senior Leaders Conference.
