University of St Andrews Maths Challenge

The University of St Andrews is a 600 year old institution that offers a broad-based holistic education, not just in the UK, but in many other countries. The university’s School Of Mathematics recently offered a challenge to the students in Malaysian local and international schools. This was organised by ASA Overseas Education Specialist and students could enroll in the Junior and Senior category.

All the Year 9 students and some Year 10 and 11 students participated in this prestigious competition in March and we have just received the results. There were 90 medals up for grabs in all of Malaysia and Certificate of Commendation were to be earned by those who achieved 65% and above.

We are delighted to announce the impressive results of our inaugural attempt. 3 students from the Junior Category and 4 students from the Senior Category from the CJ campus, and 12 students from the Junior Category and 4 students from the Senior Category from the SB campus received the School Top Achiever recognition. Amongst them were WONG Edgar, from the SB campus and JENA Kriti from the CJ campus, both Year 9 students who won silver medals. But the students’ focus and the Maths teachers’ hardwork did not stop here. LEE Hyunjin, Clyde secured a gold medal as he was placed first in the competition amongst all the international schools in Malaysia. He also went on to earn the third place nationwide amongst all the schools.

Many congratulations to these students, Ms. Lalitha, Ms. Arbas and the Maths teachers! You have made elc’s flag fly high. We hope that this success will inspire more Math enthusiasts to be ready for the next challenge.
