Y2 eat their fractions

Last week our Year 2 students were working on fractions at home. They began this numeracy unit by cutting an apple in half, and then they explored the definition of a fraction. Next, they discovered the concepts of equal parts, numerators and denominators with a slice of bread. Their teacher, Ms Anita, advised them to come up with a series of activities that would allow them to explore fractions, example through arts and craft or with one of their favourite things: food!

At home, a few students started with bread, pizza, cake, etc. Then they made it into halves, two fourths and a student even managed to cut the pizza into eight. Next, they came up with equivalent fractions. This change, learning fraction through food has made all the difference. Plus they had to eat all that tasty food to tidy up. Well done everyone!
